Drive belt frequency meter for fast and accurate measurement of belt tension

Memory for 750 measured values / graphic display / easy operation / multilingual menu / measurement in Hz and N

Drive Belt Frequency Meter in use at a conveyor belt. The belt frequency meter is an optical measuring maintenance tool for determining belt tension force. This belt frequncy measuring device consists of a display unit and a sensor head which is attached to a gooseneck. The belt frequency measuring device measures the belt tension and the belt frequency of the belt when it is stationary. A small impulse on the belt, vertical to the tension direction, is sufficient to set the belt vibrating. The belt tension measuring device measures the natural frequency of the belt with the sensor and visualizes it on the display. The belt tension gauge can directly determine the actual tension force of the belt from the belt frequency and the optionally entered belt length and belt mass. However, it is not absolutely necessary to enter this data in order to carry out measurements directly with the belt tension gauge. The measuring units can be switched between N (SI unit) and Pound Force (US unit) in the belt tension gauge. The graphic display of the belt frequency meter always shows the measured value as belt frequency in Hz. If the belt mass and length are entered in the device, the belt tension in Newton is also displayed. The intuitive graphic menu is visualized on the high-contrast display of the gauge in six selectable languages. For further analysis and quality assurance purposes, the belt frequency meter is equipped with a memory. Up to 750 data records can be stored in the memory of the belt frequency meter in 15 sets of 50 measured values.

The unit is delivered completely ready for use. The scope of delivery includes the handheld unit, the standard sensor with gooseneck, a magnetic holder, batteries and operating instructions. An instrument case, frequency beater, tripod and a measuring sensor with spiral cable and a longer gooseneck (for belts that are difficult to reach) are available as options for the drive belt frequency meter.

Why should the belt force be measured?

The measurement of belts is always necessary when machines and systems are to be optimally maintained. A belt drive only achieves its maximum service life if it is designed for specific applications. This means that the belt is optimally tensioned and the pulleys are precisely aligned. With the aid of the belt frequency meter, the tension force can be precisely determined when the belt is stationary.

Drive belts are indispensable in industry and mechanical engineering. The maximum service life of a drive belt depends on the optimal belt tension. A failure of an engine caused by the belt damage can lead to considerable costs. To prevent the damage to the engine and belt, regular checking of the belt tension is essential. The belt tension of drive belts can be measured quickly and reliably with the digital belt tension measuring device. The pre-tension measuring device is particularly good for the effective checking of the belt systems by means of the frequency measurement.

Drive Belt Frequency Meter in use at a packing machine. The belt frequency measuring device is an optically measuring maintenance tool for determining the belt tension. This pre-tension measuring device consists of a display device and a sensor head. The sensor head of the belt frequency meter is attached to a gooseneck. Due to the movable gooseneck, the sensor head of the belt frequency measuring device can be flexibly positioned and the belt tension of the drive belts can be measured even in the hard-to-reach places.

The belt belt frequency meter measures the tension force and the frequency of the belt when it is at a standstill. A small pulse on the belt is enough to make it vibrate. Due to its sensor, the belt tension measuring device detects the natural frequency of the belt, produced in this way, and visualizes it on the large, illuminated display. The pre-tension measuring device can directly determine the tension force of the belt from the belt frequency and the optionally entered belt length and belt mass. With the belt frequency meter, the user can determine the belt tension in the system to be controlled from pulleys and take the immediate measures to adjust the tension to the desired value. The measurement of the belt tension requires high precision, and the measuring device carries it out quickly and reliably.

When using the belt frequency meter, the user can choose between two measurement units: N (SI unit) and Pound-Force (US unit). The graphic display of the belt tension measuring device shows the measured value as belt frequency in Hz. When the belt mass and length are entered, the pre-tension measuring device also shows the belt tension in Newton. The intuitive graphic menu is visualized on the high-contrast display of the belt tension measuring device in six selectable languages. For further analysis and for the reason of quality assurance, the belt tension measuring device is equipped with a memory. Up to 750 data records can be stored in 15 folders with 50 measurement values in each can be stored in the memory of the belt tension measuring device. In this way, the data are not lost after a measurement in the real time and can be stored in the frequency meter for the next measurements.

Application Areas for Belt Frequency Measuring Devices

The range of applications of the belt tension measuring device is large. With its help, for example, large motor-shaft combinations, conveyor systems, hoists, elevators, automotive industry or agricultural machines can be checked.

Belt tension measurement is always required when machines and systems are to be optimally maintained. The belt frequency meter from PCE Instruments can be used to determine the belt tension of both toothed belts and V-belts. Belt tension is an important parameter when it goes about installing, setting up, maintaining and repairing belt drives. Therefore, the belt tension should be checked regularly over the entire running time with the compact belt tension measuring device and adjusted, if necessary. The maximum service life of all the machine components can only be provided through the regular application of the pre-tension measuring device. Belt tension that is too high or too low can cause damage. Regular checks can significantly reduce the follow-up costs after the unplanned downtimes caused by the bearing damage or defective belts. The use of the belt tension measuring device is therefore suitable for applications in the field of motor technology, industrial production, for stepper motors, in tool and machine construction or in the area of maintenance and repair. In order to ensure a long service life and high performance of the devices, machines and systems, it is important to regularly measure the belt tension of the drive belts.

In addition to the belt frequency meter, PCE Instruments offers the gooseneck sensor PCE-BTM 2000 SHL. The sensor has a long gooseneck and a spiral cable which allows application on the measuring points that are difficult to reach in the built-in systems.

The replacement sensor with the short gooseneck PCE-BTM 2000 SHS can be easily attached (screwed) to the PCE-BTM 2000 measuring device. Due to the flexible sensor neck, the problem with difficult to reach measuring points can be solved.
