The PCE-N20U is a digital temperature indicator used for signal processing. Designed for quick and easy system integration, the digital temperature indicator features a large 5-digit LED display with tricolor coding dependent on the measured values. The temperature indicator also can output signals via two open collector outputs when a threshold value is exceeded.
The digital temperature indicator is used for processing signals from Pt100 temperature sensors or thermocouples (type J, K). The measurement results are shown on the large 5-digit LED-display of the temperature indicator. Depending on the actual values, the temperature can be shown in three different colors, which makes it easier to evaluate them.
A temperature gauge is used for simple and continuous temperature measurements in stationary areas. The temperature indicator is typically installed in a control cabinet or control panel so that the user could read off the measured values quickly and easily.
Which temperature display is used, usually depends on the sensor that is available to the customer or on what the temperature to be measured is. The temperature display can be selected here in three versions:
- Temperature display for resistance thermometers, such as Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000 ...
- Temperature display for thermocouples type K, J, S, T ....
- Temperature display for temperature sensors with standard signal output
A temperature display that is directly connected to a resistance sensor or thermocouple usually requires no configuration, since the sensor characteristics are standardized. For the user, this means quick and easy installation of the measuring technology. In some cases, of course, it may happen that some adjustments to compensate for the ambient temperature (thermocouples) or to compensate for the connecting cable (resistance sensors) must be made, so that the measurement result of the temperature display was accurate.
If the temperature display is used with the standard signal, the input signal (0/4 ... 20 mA or 0 ... 5/10 V) must be scaled to the sensor accordingly.
This means, in detail, that when a sensor is connected to the temperature display, which outputs an analogue electrical signal linearly to the measured temperature, then the temperature display must be, so to say, informed that, for example, electrically measured, 4 mA correspond to a temperature of 0 ° C and 20 mA – to a temperature of 100 ° C. Now, if the temperature sensor outputs a current of 12.5 mA, the temperature display indicates exactly a temperature of 50 ° C.
Furthermore, to choose a suitable temperature display the attention should also be paid to whether the display should be used only for visualization of the measured values, or whether it should be controlled via switching outputs processes or alarms. Thus, the alarm lights can be switched on via relays or OC outputs or air conditioners or ventilation systems can be switched on and off as part of climate monitoring.
Temperature displays with an interface, usually RS485 Modbus, are able to transmit the measured values via the bus signal to a process control system or paperless recorder.
