Defectoscope

The defectoscope is used for the non-destructive testing of components made of different materials. As well as using optical methods, a defectoscope can detect material defects by means of, for example, ultrasound, eddy current or even magnetic fields. Be it discontinuities, voids, cracks or material inclusions, with the defectoscope these errors can be found and very precisely localized. A determination of the size of the errors is also possible.

The special advantage of the defectoscope lies in the possibility to check components whilst they are installed, even during their operation. Installations do not necessarily have to be taken down, and components can be controlled directly on site, with no need for costly and time-consuming removal work. A defectoscope therefore finds application in a wide range of areas, including e.g. mechanical engineering, pressure vessel construction, pipeline construction, aerospace engineering and rail transport.

With adjustable frequencies between 0.5 … 20 MHz and sound velocities between 1000 … 15000 m/s, measurements can be carried out in steel in the range between 0 … 10000 mm. DAC and AVG evaluation methods, display and probe delay, attenuation and amplification functions, export and report generation functions as well as numerous other setting options make non-destructive material testing with the defectoscope considerably easier.

PCE-FD 20 is a portable ultrasonic defectoscope with a large LCD screen that displays A-scan maps of ultrasonic signals as well as B-scan cross sections. Ideal for use in mechanical engineering, aerospace and metallurgical applications, this high-frequency ultrasound-based defectoscope uses a contact transducer (two different probes included; 45° and 90°) to measure material thickness and identify flaws and defects such as discontinuity in welds.
