Purchase Advice on Voltage Measuring Devices

A voltmeter is used to measure the DC or AC voltage. PCE Instruments offers a wide range of different measuring instruments for carrying out such tasks.
Basically, the voltage measuring devices may be differentiated as follows: measuring devices that can only perform the voltage measurement or also some that possess other measuring functions, such as current measurement, resistance measurement, diode test, etc. In this case, one speaks not just about a voltage tester but rather about a multimeter. In principle, however, every multimeter is also a voltage measuring device.
This purchase advice shows the basic differences between the voltage measuring devices from our assortment.

The simplest type of voltage measuring device is the two-pole voltage tester. This voltmeter gauge usually consists of two parts, which are held in the left or right hand. On the front part of the voltmeter there are measuring tips needed to measure voltage. This type of the voltage measuring instruments is often used in the trade and in maintenance. The simple design provides a comfortable and fast working with this voltmeter. Frequently, these voltmeters also have a test button for fault current protection facilities.

Another form of voltage measuring devices is a multimeter. In addition to the voltage measuring function, further measurement options are available here, such as current measurement, resistance measurement, capacitance test, diode test, etc. Voltage measuring instruments, which are designed as multimeters, are structurally completely different from a two-pole voltage tester. Here, the test leads are not connected to the voltmeters directly, but changeably attached to the multimeter. Thus, for example, the voltage gauges can be placed on a workbench and the measurement values can be conveniently read, even if an access to the voltage measurement is difficult.

In addition to the multimeters, current clamps can also be used as a voltage measuring device. A basic requirement here is that the current clamp has separate measuring inputs for voltage. When the current clamp is used as a voltage measuring device, it is often the case, that also the measuring functions, such as continuity test, etc. are integrated in the voltmeter.
