Carbon dioxide is a natural component of the air we breathe and is colourless, odourless and tasteless. The gas can be toxic in high concentrations. In poorly ventilated rooms, the carbon dioxide levels can rise quickly and have a very strong impact on well-being. Regular air quality control in the enclosed spaces is therefore essential to avoid concentration problems and other bad for health consequences. The quality of the air in the offices and classrooms can be checked particularly effectively, quickly and conveniently with the carbon dioxide measuring device from PCE Instruments. The carbon dioxide measuring device is reliable, multifunctional and was specially developed for indoor measurements.

Carbon dioxide measurement in an university. The carbon dioxide measuring device enables the precise and simple measurement of CO2, temperature and relative humidity. The large LC display of the carbon dioxide measuring device displays all the measured values and also has a date and time display. The battery level in the carbon dioxide meter can be seen as a battery symbol in the upper part of the display. Via a USB interface, the carbon dioxide measuring device can be charged or connected to a power source during a long-term measurement. This also ensures a permanent control of the air quality in the closed rooms. The manufacturer has also provided the carbon dioxide meter with an automatic switch-off: if desired, the device switches off by itself after two hours to protect the battery.

Carbon dioxide measurement in an laboratory. The measuring range of the carbon dioxide measuring device is between 400 and 5000 ppm. The unit of CO2 concentration is given in ppm (parts per million), it goes about the millionth part. CO2 concentrations up to 800 ppm are acceptable indoors, from 1400 ppm sufficient fresh air supply should be ensured. From carbon dioxide concentrations of 80.000 ppm, CO2 quickly reaches a lethal dose. In addition, the carbon dioxide measuring device provides reliable information about the temperature (-10 degrees Celsius to +50 degrees Celsius) and the air humidity (0 to 99 percent RH). The carbon dioxide meter uses non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) technology to measure the CO2 concentration. The determined values are clearly shown on the large LC display of the carbon dioxide measuring device. If the CO2 concentration in the indoor air is too high, the white illuminated display switches to red. An acoustic signal complements the visual alarm function to draw attention to the increased CO2 concentration in the room air. In this way, the carbon dioxide meter allows the user to quickly react to the changes in the indoor air. In order to minimize the pollution of the air with CO2, fresh air should be supplied as quickly as possible and a window should be opened in the case when the limit is exceeded. With the help of the carbon dioxide measuring device, it is always possible to achieve an optimum indoor air quality and to prevent the harmful for health effects of the CO2 pollution.

Application Areas for Carbon Dioxide Measuring Instruments

Compact, flexible, reliable: the carbon dioxide meter from PCE Instruments is the ideal instrument for monitoring the air quality. Its practical functions and user-friendly application make the carbon dioxide measuring device an ideal solution for workplaces, schools, day care centres, production, research and development facilities. Also, in the private sector, the carbon dioxide measuring device is preferred because of its uncomplicated handling in order to monitor the CO2 concentration, based on which some ventilation recommendations can be obtained.
