Information about an acoustic calibrator
The acoustic calibrator from PCE Instruments is used to calibrate sound meters. The portable calibrator is indispensable when using sound meters, since calibration or recalibration of the sound meters is recommended before each use. The sound meters are supplied pre-adjusted, but nevertheless the sensor of the device is subject to a certain time drift. Individually before each use, the sound calibrator checks the accuracy of the acoustic measuring devices quickly and precisely. The regular calibration can, thus, help to prevent the measurement errors. The aim of the calibration is to recognize deviations from the standard during the measurement and to document them. For a correct result, the previously determined deviation must be taken into account during the subsequent application of the measuring device. Alternatively, the sound meter can also be adjusted after the calibration. Only with the help of the sound calibrator it can be permanently ensured that the sound meter works optimally and shows the user the correct measuring results. With the acoustic calibrator, the user can recalibrate the sound meter independently at any time. Thus, the acoustic calibrator guarantees that the user continuously gets the optimal measurement results and is therefore the ideal supplement to the acoustic measuring instrument.

To calibrate a sound meter, the PCE Instruments calibrator generates a constant, acoustic signal. The sound meter is then calibrated against this reference tone, a tone with a frequency of 1000 Hz. Since the sound measuring instruments typically use a standard half-inch measuring microphone, a PCE Instruments sound calibrator is equipped with a matching receiving port 0.5 inch and 1-inch in diameter. Even at the temperature fluctuations, the acoustic calibrator provides reliable results. The calibrator can be used at a working temperature of -10 degrees Celsius up to +50 degrees Celsius.
